Welcome to the BSG homepage

The Bernhard-Strigel-Gymnasium (BSG) is a grammar school in Memmingen, a town in the state of Bavaria, Germany. Located near the Alps this old imperial city of about 44,000 inhabitants has a history that reaches back to end of the first millennium. The BSG hosts around 1200 students with a dedicated teaching staff of 100.

Our school sees its mission in conveying a balanced and broad-based education which meets the requirements of any life and job situation in the future.

To reach these goals for its students the school offers a variety of streams with eight different combinations of foreign languages:

  • the Naturwissenschaftlich-technologisches Gymnasium majoring in Sciences and Mathematics as well as IT plus two foreign languages
  • the Sprachliches Gymnasium focusing on three foreign languages
  • the Musisches Gymnasium with Music and Art as main subjects and two foreign languages

School hours are mostly in the mornings, with a growing number of lessons being taught in the afternoons due to the latest school reform. Weekends are free.

Languages taught include German, English, French, Latin, Spanish. Italian and Russian can be studied as optional subjects.

The school has also various exchange programmes with schools in Australia, France, Great Britain, Guadeloupe, Italy and Spain to enable students to develop their social and language skills.

Students can also choose from a wide range of extracurricular activities such as Astronomy,Choir, Ecology, Electronics, Orchestra, Big Band, Drama, Art, IT, Dancing Classes, PE, Psychology, Sciences, School Garden, School Magazine and Modern Languages. The School Café is run by a student company.

The Abitur, the final examination taken by students after year 12 entitles them to a direct entry into German or EC universities.
